Best Beaches in Ghana

Surf-friendly crescents, palm-fringed coves and bonfire weekends from Labadi to Cape Three Points.

Ghana's 540 km Atlantic coast hides everything from drumming-circle city beaches in Accra to wild, empty sweeps in the Western Region where turtles still nest.

Labadi Beach is the lively Accra classic — horseback rides, reggae and brass bands every weekend. For something quieter, paddle across the lagoon at Bojo Beach or head west to the surf town of Busua.

The Western Region delivers Ghana's prettiest sands: Axim Beach, Cape Three Points (the southernmost point in the country) and the leatherback-nesting Akwidaa stretch. Across the country, Ada Foah marks where the Volta River meets the Atlantic in a maze of palm-thatched eco-lodges.

Most beaches are free; some private resorts charge a small day-use fee that usually includes a sunbed and shade.

Frequently asked

Are Ghana's beaches safe to swim?

Yes, but the Atlantic surf is strong — Busua, White Sands and Bojo Beach have the calmest swimming. Always swim parallel to the shore.

Can you surf in Ghana?

Busua is the country's surf capital, with board rentals and beginner-friendly waves year-round.

When is turtle season?

Leatherback and olive ridley turtles nest along the Western coast (Akwidaa, Cape Three Points) from October to March.
